every once in awhile i take some time out of my day and browse deviantart, but everytime I do it seems like there is less and less traditional art. Sure, digital art is pretty neat, and alot of great pieces have come out of this relatively new use of media, and they are getting better and better all the time. But I do miss seeing paintings, new ones have become pretty rare on this site, I may be bias because I am a painter, but there is something so pure about someone putting there actual hands into a piece, spending hours and hours over a canvas, gliding there brush so poetically across the surface to make something beautiful.
Is painting slowly dying?
Is it being replaced with people clicking away at their mouse, staring at a silly comuter screen for hours of creativity?
I have no doubt in my mind that digital art has become a powerful force in art. But I think its sad to just forget where art began, (I know cavemen drew pictures to) but painting was a whole new revolution. People started to pay attention to pictures, being mesmerized by their secrets. Its also when so many great minds figured out how to explain them. So I guess what Im saying is digital art is great but it feels like we are forgeting, or maybe we are just moving on, from something that created what art is today.
